UNITAR has partnered with OECD and the government of Egypt to lead the debate on the potential of smart and innovative partnerships under MDG8 to accelerate overall progress on MDGs to meet the 2015 deadline. While Heads of State will gather for the first day of the MDG+10 Summit at the UN Headquarters in New York, the side-event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the UN premises in Conference Room 5.

The event will showcase outstanding partnership practices that have contributed to advancing the MDGs and announce new highly innovative partnerships in the five years to come. It will particularly feature: Mr. Angel Gurría OECD Secretary-General, Ms. Navi Pillay UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms. Patti Londoño, Vice Minister for Multilateral Affairs of Colombia, Ms. Emilia Pires Minister of Finance of Timor Leste, Ms. Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul former Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany and Member of Parliament, Mr. Georg Kell, Head of the UN Global Compact and Dr. Talaat Abdel-Malek Economic Adviser to the Minister of International Cooperation of Egypt.
Organizers have received an overwhelming number of requests for registrations and had to limit registrations to accommodate security requirements during the UN Summit. The side-event will engage the audience in a TV-style debate inviting distinguished panellists to put forward concrete recommendations to the General Assembly in a manifesto for MDG 8. The audience will decide what it should contain.
