In the framework of UNITAR’s new strategic plan, the Institute envisages to enhance its outreach to Ibero-american countries. In the perspective of widening and consolidating its training and capacity development activities, the conclusion of partnerships and cooperation arrangements with countries and regional organizations in Latin America are vital to the success of these objectives.

In this context, Ms Isabel Hubert, Associate Director of the Training Department, representing Mr Carlos Lopes, Executive Director of UNITAR, and Mr Freddy Ehlers, Secretary General of the Andean Community, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 6 March 2009 in Lima (Peru), which sets out the basis for the collaboration between the two institutions.

The agreement will allow UNITAR and the Andean Community General Secretariat (SGCA) to work together to offer face-to-face training courses as well as distance-based learning opportunities on themes of common interest, with a view to jointly contribute to addressing the significant training needs in Andean countries.
