Multilateral Diplomacy training lies at the heart of UNITAR. The Institute traditionally delivers training workshops on the UN system and skills development. Given the recent global context, UNITAR specifically designed a series of training programmes on multilateralism. These aim at strengthening the spirit of international cooperation and togetherness, build up values such as solidarity and inclusiveness in participants and sensitize them to the importance of addressing global challenges, such as climate change, in a spirit of cooperation.  Please find below our exclusive multilateralism training programme, among which:

  • United Nations Immersion Programme
  • Diplomacy 4.0 Training Programme
  • Young Leaders Online Training Programme
  • United Nations Internship Preparation Programme
  • Human Rights Council Training Programme

UNITED NATIONS IMMERSION PROGRAMME

As part of the training activities implemented during the spring months, UNITAR designed a blended programme consisting of a four weeks e-Learning course, followed by a five day field visit to Geneva, offering participants the chance to fully immerse themselves into International Geneva, and thereby gain a first-hand experience of the United Nations.

Given the complexity of Geneva's multilateral environment, the UN Immersion Programme will cover a series of different thematic areas. These will include peace and security, human rights and humanitarian affairs, global health and well-being, trade and technology, as well as environment and sustainable development.

UNITAR welcomes a variety of professional backgrounds and differing degrees of experience among its participants. The Immersion Programme is therefore open to all actors related to international affairs wishing to build up knowledge and skills related to the United Nations.

The Immersion Programme Spring 2021 Edition (1 March – 2 April 2021) provides expert webinars, e-workshops, virtual guided tours, online career development sessions and live-streamed conferences. For all those who are not able to attend the field visit to Geneva, there will also be a 2-weeks UN Online Immersion Programme (5 April – 16 April).

UNITED NATIONS DIPLOMACY 4.0 TRAINING PROGRAMME

Humankind is indisputably entering a new digital era. The impact of rapid technological and scientific advances on our lives is so great that World Economic Forum’s founder, Klaus Schwab, termed this process as the Fourth Industrial Revolution. We are the witnesses of transcendence through new frontiers.

Diplomacy 4.0 is UNITAR’s answer to these new challenges. The Training Programme consists of two parts:

  1. A 6-week preparatory e-Learning course (12 April – 22 May 2021)
  2. A 5-day field visit to Geneva (24 May – 28 May 2021)

The programme explores the nexus between diplomacy and areas of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Scientific Advancements, Internet Governance and other significant issues, paving the way for the next generation of international affairs professionals. Its overarching purpose is to prepare participants for the continuously deepening interdependence between diplomacy and technology and equip them with necessary skills to exercise those innovations in practice.

Participants may include public sector officials, private sector professionals, representatives from NGO’s, think tanks or academia. Junior professionals and graduate students are equally welcome to apply.
